There really is no secret to buying a lift chair. If you get a chair from either Golden Technologies or Pride, you can take my word that it will be very comfortable. The real trick is to figure out what size lift chair you need and what options you want. Other than that, the color of the fabric is the only other concern.
The Size of your Lift Chair:
This is pretty important, so both Pride and Golden make different size chairs. Shorter people will find it very difficult to get out of a chair that is too big, and like-wise, buying a short chair for a tall person sort-of defeats the purpose of the lift chair. The people at US Medical can help you size your chair properly, so I won't waste time describing how to measure for the lift chair. It's really just a range of heights and weights. The only real concern would be for a coupe that has one tall person and one shorter person. You may want to buy one chair first, then get another chair for the other person. Golden also makes chairs for large people - they have extra width between the arm rests for those with larger pants-sizes. Again, if you're not too wide, then you may want those arm rests in closer to help stabalize you as you get out of the chair.
Options for your Lift Chair:
Just like buying a car, the more luxury options you add, the higher the price. If this is a chair for occasional sitting, say to read the newspaper on Sunday morning, you probably just want to get the lift feature and none of the frills. If however, this is a chair that you or your loved one will be spending most of their day in, then I recommend splurging:
- The heated massage option will help with comfort and back aches.
- Chairs that recline into a sleep position allow you to take a nap - without getting up and going to bed.
- The heel extenders add a little more support for your heels, so your feet don't hang off the end of the foot rest. For someone with aching joints, the heel extender is a real plus.
- Side pockets are convenient for keeping TV remotes and reading material close at hand.
- Some models even have little water-proof compartments under the arm-rests that you can pack with ice and a few drinks.
- Side trays are nice for keeping reading glasses, drinks, snacks and other items nearby.
- Golden has a fabric called Brisa that I highly recommend because it's very comfortable and very easy to clean.
Color of the Fabric for your Lift Chair:
Sorry, you're on your own for that decision.
I hope this helps,
