In the last few years, the latest trend in computers has been to simplify the computer so that more people can use them. Many older seniors have never used a computer, or find that they are so complicated that they get confused when using one. For those seniors that retired prior to 1995, htis may be especially true since they did not have the advantage of using the internet while working. The technology has advanced so rapidly in the last 15 years, that if you haven't been working on computers at your job, you fell behind the technology curve.
For these seniors, they have framily and friends that are using the computers as their primary form of communication. If they want to stay in touch, then they need to at least have the basic tools that work with today's communication technologies (email, texting, social media, etc...).
